Plans to transform Tonbridge Town Centre continue to move forward, with Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council progressing its long-term regeneration masterplan for the area east of the High Street. The vision aims to create a more vibrant and sustainable town centre through a combination of improved leisure facilities, new public spaces, housing, healthcare provision, and commercial development.
A key element of the programme is the proposed new leisure centre at Sovereign Way, which will act as the catalyst for wider regeneration across the area. The masterplan also includes proposals for new homes, enhanced riverside public spaces, improved walking routes, a potential GP healthcare facility, and opportunities for hotel and mixed-use development.
The council has adopted a phased delivery approach, with regeneration expected to take place over a number of years as opportunities arise and projects become viable. Feedback from residents and businesses has helped shape the plans, and the council remains committed to ensuring the needs of the local community are considered throughout the process.
