Plans for a new £20.6 million Angel Centre in Tonbridge have been unanimously approved by councillors, marking the largest public investment in the town for a generation. Construction is set to begin in early 2027 on the Sovereign Way Mid Car Park site, with the new facility expected to open in 2028.
The modern, energy-efficient development will replace the existing Angel Centre, which has reached the end of its operational life. Designed to meet the needs of current and future generations, the new building will feature an expanded gym, immersive spin studio, children’s soft play and party rooms, public café, active wellbeing suite and flexible community spaces capable of hosting events for up to 332 people.
The project is fully funded through council reserves, existing budgets and a £1 million contribution from tmactive, with no borrowing required. Shaped by extensive public consultation, the new Angel Centre will be the first project delivered as part of the Tonbridge Town Centre Masterplan, while the current facility remains fully operational throughout construction.
